For Miles Booker, who has just celebrated his first year as owner of Boatshed Sussex, the idea of running a boat brokerage business was not one that initially jumped out at him...

"After leaving the Army, I had the opportunity to do a transatlantic crossing with friends. Once back in the UK , the idea of continuing contract work didn't hold much appeal, but I had little idea of what I could do instead. I knew that I wanted to be self-employed and to start a new challenge, so I simply Googled 'businesses for sale'!"

"Boatshed was one of many things that came up in the search, but the only one that started to make sense. It was a business that I could build up, I could be self-employed, and it was a challenge.... Then the more I thought about it the more excited I became - I have always had an interest in boats, sailing dinghies as a child through to bigger yachts later on. It offered the opportunity to combine business with pleasure!"
