FEATURED OFFICE – INTERVIEW WITH IAN SAWKINS OF BOATSHED WEST SCOTLAND

Ian is new to Boatshed and is hoping to have his Boatshed business up and running in January 2010.  He currently lives in Yorkshire, but is relocating to Scotland with his partner Margaret, so it is a very busy time for them at the moment.  Ian is half German was born in Libya came to Yorkshire at 12 years of age and has lived there ever since, although he has worked widely in Scotland.

What were you doing before Boatshed?  I have been running my own business for many years running my own business supplying corrugated packaging materials.

What made you chose Boatshed as your business?  Boatshed sold my boat and I was so impressed at the speed in which it happened and how it was so well co-ordinated.  Looked on the Boatshed website and read up on ‘Own a Boatshed Business’.

What advice would you give to others joining the Boatshed group?  Get started as soon as you can so that you can get your desired territory.
What sailing experience do you have?  Day Skipper Theory and Practical motor and sailing, when time allows I'm planning to take my Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Theory next.  I have sailed predominantly in the West Coast of Scotland.

Where do you see your business in two years time?  I see it as being a major player in used boat sales in the West of Scotland.
