FEATURED OFFICE – INTERVIEW WITH ROSS FARNCOMBE OF BOATSHED CHICHESTER/HAYLING ISLAND
Ross lives on the South Coast of England and has had his Boatshed business since March of this year. Before starting his business he was already self employed working as an Audio Engineer in film and television. He chose the Boatshed business because he was looking for a business avenue that included boats. Ross’s sailing experience includes Yachtmaster off shore, he has been sailing for nearly 40 years and his furthest voyage so far was transatlantic.
What made you chose Boatshed? It was literally pure chance meeting, I made a few enquiries and that was it. It’s really a long story, I am converting an old Danish trawler into a live aboard which is being filmed for a programme on Discovery channel presenters are really only experienced in the housing market and they sought advice from Peter Watt (Boatshed Portsmouth), as they knew very little about boats. Peter got involved with the filming project. I asked Peter for information about the Boatshed business. I then fired off a request for more information about a Boatshed business.
What plans do you have for the future Ross? I have Just expanded into Chichester as well as Hayling Island so the business opportunities are tremendous, I now look after an area with nearly 12,000 boats.
Where do you see your business in two years time? The leading used boat brokerage in the whole of Chichester Harbour.
How many people are involved in your business at present? It’s just me. I quite like it this way, it suits the way I work. I often like to work unconventional hours.
Do you have any useful tips to help other Boatshed Brokers? Yes - you need to get used to being the envy of your friends because they don’t go to the seaside everyday to work!
